How to Prepare Your Pet for Surgery at Urbanpawz Animal Clinic

Getting your pet ready for surgery is essential for a smooth procedure. To ensure comfort and readiness, here’s what you can do before the surgery.

Overview

Most surgeries are outpatient procedures, where they are dropped off early in the morning and picked up later in the day.  If your pet needs continued care and monitoring after-hours, we will direct you and your pet to the appropriate overnight facility.  All recommended recovery protocols should be strictly followed to ensure your pet returns to good health and a normal life as quickly as possible.

Fasting Instructions

In most cases, we advise that your pet not eat any food or treats at least 8 hours prior to surgery.  Provide access to water at all times.  If your pet has any chronic illness, we’ll provide more specific guidelines for when to withhold food and water before surgery.

Bring a favorite toy or blanket to help your pet feel more at ease in the clinic.

Pre-Visit Pharmaceuticals
