What Is Pet Telehealth? How Virtual Vet Visits Work at Urban Pawz
If you have ever wished you could ask your vet a question without loading your cat into a carrier or coaxing your anxious dog into the car, you are not alone. Pet telehealth is changing how pet owners access veterinary care — and Urban Pawz Animal Clinic in Coconut Creek is proud to be part of that change.
In this guide, we explain exactly what pet telehealth is, how virtual vet visits work, what they can and cannot do, and how to book one at Urban Pawz. Consider this your complete introduction to modern, convenient pet care.
What Is Pet Telehealth?
Pet telehealth is the use of video calls, phone consultations, or secure messaging platforms to connect pet owners with a licensed veterinarian — without an in-person visit. The vet can observe your pet through a camera, ask detailed questions about symptoms, review any photos or videos you share, and provide professional guidance in real time.
It is not a replacement for all in-person care. It is a powerful complement to it — particularly for situations that do not require a physical exam, for follow-up consultations, or for times when getting to a clinic is difficult.
What Can a Virtual Vet Visit Do?
At Urban Pawz, our telehealth appointments can help with a wide range of situations, including:
- Assessing minor symptoms and advising whether an in-person visit is needed
- Post-surgery check-ins to monitor healing from home
- Nutritional counselling and diet planning for dogs and cats
- Behavioural questions and anxiety management guidance
- Prescription refill consultations for established patients
- General wellness questions about vaccines, preventive care, and life stage changes
- Second opinions on a diagnosis or treatment plan
- Travel health certificates guidance and documentation questions
How Does a Virtual Vet Visit Work at Urban Pawz?
The process is straightforward and designed to be as frictionless as possible:
- Book your Virtual Call through the Urban Pawz Pet Telehealth Page through the Header Services drop-down menu or use this link Book A Virtual Visit
- Kindly check in with your Full Name to let Dr. Dias-Appelblatt know you are here. No app download is required.
- You will join the waiting room until Dr. Dias-Appelblatt lets you in
- Make sure you are in a well-lit room where the vet can clearly see your pet.
- Our veterinarian will ask questions, observe your pet on camera, and review any photos or videos you have prepared.
- You will receive a written summary of the consultation, any recommendations, and next steps — including whether an in-person visit is advised.
Is Pet Telehealth Right for Every Situation?
Telehealth is an excellent option for many situations, but it does have limitations. Conditions that require a physical examination — such as palpating the abdomen, listening to the heart, or taking blood samples — will always require an in-person visit. If our vet determines during a telehealth call that your pet needs to come in, they will let you know immediately and help you schedule it.
As a general guide: if your pet has an emergency — difficulty breathing, collapse, severe bleeding, suspected poisoning, or loss of consciousness — please call us immediately or go directly to an emergency animal hospital. Telehealth is not an emergency service. When a pet has not been seen in-person, We cannot prescribe any meds that are not over the counter.
Why Urban Pawz for Pet Telehealth?
Urban Pawz is one of a small number of clinics in Broward County offering integrated telehealth as part of a full-service veterinary practice. That means the vet who handles your virtual visit has access to your pet’s complete medical history, knows your pet personally, and can seamlessly transition care to an in-person visit if needed.
Our Coconut Creek clinic combines modern technology with the warmth and personal care our clients describe in every review. Virtual visits are no different — you and your pet are always at the centre of what we do.
Is pet telehealth covered by pet insurance?
Coverage varies by provider and plan. We recommend checking with your insurer directly. We can provide a visit summary and invoice to support any reimbursement claim.
Yes. New patients are welcome for telehealth consultations. For ongoing care, we may recommend an in-person visit to establish a full medical record.

Testimonials
What some of our amazing customers are saying about us!

Dr. Marcelle is amazing! Very caring, patient, and thorough in her explanations, which made us feel confident and at ease. Our dog (Billy) was treated with great care and affection.
We highly recommend Urban Pawz Clinic!

The clinic is clean, modern, organized, and you can tell they genuinely love animals. Nico felt safe and comfortable the entire time, which means everything to me.

Her assistant was also wonderful and helped create a calm environment for the cats. One of my cats gets very nervous and sometimes urinates when stressed, and they were so understanding about it. They even offered to change the pad in the carrier and gave them Churu treats to help them relax. Small gestures like that make a huge difference for both the pets and the owners.
The whole visit felt thoughtful, gentle, and very professional. It’s rare to find a place where the staff treats your pets with that level of care and patience. We left feeling really grateful.
Dr. Dias will definitely be our cats’ veterinarian from now on. Highly recommend.

Dr Marcelle was gentle, thorough, and explained everything clearly, which really put me at ease. My Maltese was calm the whole time (which never happens at vet visits!), and I could tell she was being treated with genuine care.
The clinic itself is clean, modern, and organized — and the attention to detail in how they handle each appointment really stands out. I left feeling confident that my dog was in the best hands possible.
I highly recommend Urban Paws Animal Clinic to anyone looking for compassionate, high-quality veterinary care. They’ve definitely earned our trust and future visits!

I would highly recommend Urban Pawz to anyone. The staff, the doctor—everyone—was incredible.
